About Greenwich: Royal Hill, the riverside and neighbourhood life

Get to know Greenwich beyond its famous view, from the market and Royal Hill to East Greenwich, Maze Hill and the Peninsula.

Begin around the market and Royal Hill

Greenwich is a south-east London town with a maritime centre, busy shopping streets and residential neighbourhoods close by. The market, College Approach, Nelson Road and Greenwich Church Street form a useful starting point for getting your bearings. Royal Hill offers another cluster of independent businesses away from the main visitor circuit.

A visit can combine practical errands with a café stop or a walk, but the town is more than its best-known landmarks. Look along the side streets and read each business's actual address. A specialist based near Maze Hill may suit your needs better than the first shop you pass in the centre.

Put the landmarks in context

The Queen's House, National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark and Royal Observatory are distinct destinations. Their visiting and ticket arrangements differ, and the Observatory sits uphill in Greenwich Park. Choose the places that interest you rather than assuming a single ticket or a short, flat circuit covers everything.

The white Queen's House and its curved front steps inspire our hero artwork. The house contains an art collection, with current visitor information and room closures published by Royal Museums Greenwich. Greenwich Park provides space for a longer walk and views from the higher ground.

Choose the right neighbourhood

East Greenwich, Westcombe Park, Maze Hill and the Greenwich Peninsula each have their own services and routes. North Greenwich on the Peninsula is a separate destination from the historic town centre. Check the journey to the business itself rather than relying on the word Greenwich in its name.

Our directory also includes nearby Blackheath, Blackheath Standard, Charlton, Deptford and St Johns where relevant. Some neighbourhoods cross borough boundaries. We show real bases and service areas rather than treating the whole Royal Borough as one town-centre catchment.
