Things to do in Greenwich: park walks, maritime history and local art

Plan a Greenwich outing around the park, the Queen’s House, maritime collections and the streets beside the river.

Give the park time of its own

Greenwich Park is a destination as well as a route between attractions. Its slopes, mature trees and viewpoints make a different outing from a riverside stroll. A walk towards One Tree Hill or the higher paths can be rewarding, but consider the climb and your group's mobility when choosing a route.

The park's gates and facilities have their own arrangements, including seasonal closing times. Use the Royal Parks' current information before a late visit. Take care around roads and uneven paths, and allow for a quieter alternative if weather or energy levels change your plans.

Choose a museum or gallery stop

The Queen's House offers art in a historic setting beside the National Maritime Museum. It is a useful choice for a focused visit rather than trying to see every Greenwich attraction in one day. Check the house's current opening and closure information, particularly if a particular room is your reason for going.

Cutty Sark and the Royal Observatory offer different experiences, with their own tickets and visitor arrangements. Use the official maps to see how the sites connect. Leave time between bookings, especially when walking uphill from the river towards the Observatory.

Add a local stop to the day

The market and surrounding streets make a natural place to pause for food or browse independent shops. For a different kind of outing, Greenwich Theatre and local community venues offer performances, classes and activities. Choose a current event from the organiser's own programme before travelling.

A riverside walk can extend a short visit, but the Peninsula and the historic centre are not interchangeable destinations. Plan the return journey as well as the outward one. Our listings can help you find a food stop or regular activity in the neighbourhood you actually want.
